The team of students led by Rodrigo dos Santos Targino, professor at FGV’s School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp), won the Fourth Financial Mathematics Team Challenge (FMTC).

The team of students led by Rodrigo dos Santos Targino, professor at FGV’s School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp), won the Fourth Financial Mathematics Team Challenge (FMTC). The Quantitative Finance competition was held between July 18 and 21 at the University of Cape Town (UCT), in South Africa.

The event gathered students from Europe, South America, Africa and Canada, who teamed up to try and solve real finance problems based on mathematical techniques. The team led by the EMAp professor presented a solution to risk parity for investment companies who create portfolios for investors, featuring a different risk allocation strategy and providing new opportunities for investors to offer their clients.

Besides EMAp’s distinguished participation, the 2017 FMTC also brought together students and mentors in insurance and financial mathematics from the University College London, University of Technology Sydney, ETH Zürich, University of Vienna, and McMaster University.
