The future doesn’t look so bright, and the general consensus is that the rise of emerging powers, led by China, will bring successive uncertainties and instabilities, or even complete chaos, in the worst case scenario. This is the subject of the book “O Mundo Pós-Ocidental: Potências emergentes e a nova ordem global” [The Post-Western World: Emerging Powers and the New World Order], by Oliver Stuenkel, a professor from FGV’s School of International Relations (RI). The work, published by Editora Zahar, will be launched on August 22, at 7 p.m., at Livraria da Vila (Alameda Lorena, 1713. Jardins, Sao Paulo/SP).

In the book, Stuenkel says that there is no consistent evidence that this order will be more troubled and more violent than the current one. More likely, there will be a decentralization of political, economic and military power – from which the emerging powers will play an increasingly important role. This will spawn unprecedented and more democratic opportunities for cooperation and resolution of international challenges. That is how the expert views the post-Western world.
