Seminar discusses teaching Corporate Governance in Higher Education

The Coordinator of the Executive Master’s Degree in Business Management (MEX) of FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE), professor Joaquim Rubens, participated in the event “Effects of Teaching Corporate Governance on Organization Performance” on September 20. The meeting was held by the Regional Council of Administration of Rio de Janeiro (CRA-RJ) and aimed to discuss the state of corporate governance teaching and the implementation of its concepts in administration courses.

The professor outlined a historical overview of the evolution of the corporate world starting with the Industrial Revolution and the needs that have emerged in organizations since then. He explained that discussions on governance pervade the daily life of society, since not only companies, but also associations of different natures need to be managed according to governance principles.

“Technically, governance is the separation of ownership and management. It is how owners take care of their organizations and ensure that their decisions will be carried out by the executives”, he said.

The event, organized by the corporate governance commission of the CRA-RJ and mediated by its coordinator, Luiz Felix de Freitas, aimed to discuss the state of corporate governance teaching and the implementation of its concepts in administration courses, and was also attended by the coordinator of the IBGC Rio de Janeiro chapter, João Laudo Camargo, and business tax advisor Renato Chaves.
