IGP-M rises 0.03% in the first preliminary results of January

IGP-M rises 0.03% in the first preliminary results of January

The General Market Price Index (IGP-M) rose 0.03% in the first ten-day period of January, compared to a 1.16% drop in December.

The Broad Producer Price Index (IPA) dropped 0.13% in the first ten-day period in January. This index dropped 1.70% in the same period in December. In the analysis based on processing stages, Finished Goods prices varied 0.65% in January, on average, compared to -0.34% in December. The fuel for consumption subgroup was the main driver behind this trend, varying from -9.80% to 0.38%. Intermediate Goods varied -0.83% in the first ten-day period of January, compared to -2.32% in the previous month. One of the factors behind such variation was the manufacturing materials and components subgroup, varying from -2.63% to -0.92%.

On the other hand, the highlights were coffee (beans) (-0.71% to -4.53%), fresh milk (-3.47% to -4.52%) and pork products (4.17% to 0.15%).

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) varied 0.38% in the first ten-day period of January, compared to -0.16% in the previous month. Five of the eight expense categories that comprise the index recorded higher price variations, particularly the Food group (-0.03% to 0.71%). The dairy item stood out in this expense category, varying from -2.41% to -0.76%.

The Housing (-0.19% to 0.33%), Transport (-0.92% to -0.19%), Clothing (-0.44% to 1.46%), and Health and Personal Care (-0.02% to 0.53%) groups also rose. The main drivers in this expense class were household power bill (-1.37% to -0.67%), gasoline (-4.68% to -1.78%), clothing (-0.55% to 1.63%) and hygiene and personal care items (-1.87% to 1.47%).

On the other hand, the Education, Reading and Recreation (0.73% to 0.20%), Communication (0.15% to -0.02%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.20% to 0.06%) groups recorded decreasing variation rates. The main highlights in these expense classes were air tickets (13.01% to 2.82%), landline phone and internet packages (0.63% to 0.00%), and postal fees (3.49% to 0.00%).

The Civil Construction Index (INCC) rose 0.27% in the first ten days of January. This index rose 0.06% in the previous month. Prices for Materials, Equipment and Services rose 0.18%, compared to 0.13% in the previous month. The Manpower cost category varied 0.34% in the first ten-day period of January. The index did not vary in the previous month.
