Vanessa Rahal Canado, Professor of Tax Law at FGV’s Sao Paulo Law School (Direito SP) has participated in the Conference “Value Added of Value-Added Taxes,” promoted by the World Bank on May 9-10 in Washington D.C. (United States).

The professor participated in the panel on the role of public policy makers in tax reforms, alongside Jesús Antonio Bejarano Rojas, Minister of Finance of Colombia, Samuel Mulenga, senior economist and researcher from Zambia, and Miryam Yepes Salazar, Director of Economics, Intelligence and Tax Optimization of the Ministry of Economy of Peru.

“Participating in an event of this magnitude is an important milestone at the moment when Brazil is experiencing, when we are debating which tax reform Brazil will choose to unlock the investment agenda and simplify its tax structure,” explained the teacher.

Rodrigo Maia, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil, presented in recent days the Tax Reform Bill drafted by the Fiscal Citizenship Center (CCiF), coordinated by economist Bernard Appy and FGV professors Eurico de Santi, Nelson Machado, and Vanessa Canado.

The proposal seeks to unify the ICMS, ISS, IPI, PIS and COFINS taxes in a single tax, called IBS (Tax on Goods and Services), with a single rate valid for all products and services.
