On June 3, the Digital Humanities Lab (LHuD) of FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC), in partnership with the Columbia Global Center in Rio de Janeiro, will be holding, at 2 p.m., an open lecture with historian Matthew Connelly, on the subject “Predicting History: Using Big Data, AI, and Experimental Methods to Explore the Past.” The event will be held in auditorium 1013 of FGV Main Office (Praia de Botafogo, 190, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ).

The lecture will be given in English by Connelly, professor of international and global history at Columbia University. The guest will be addressing the impact of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and experimental methods in the field of History and Social Sciences.

Matthew Connelly holds a PhD in History from Yale University (1997). At Columbia, he coordinates the History Lab, with the mission of using data science for social research. By collecting fragmented historical collections in a common database, the laboratory coordinated by him makes use of natural language processing and machine learning tools to explore them.
