IPC-S price index rises 2.90% in year to August and 3.97% in last 12 months

As of August 31, 2019, the Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) was up 0.17%, down 0.05 of a percentage point from the previous figure, announced on August 22. As a result, the indicator is up 2.90% since the beginning of the year and up 3.97% in the last 12 months.

In the latest time interval, five of the eight categories of expenses that make up the index recorded declining rates of variation. The biggest downward contribution came from the Food group (-0.15% to -0.36%). In this spending category, vegetable prices went from -8.07% to -10.75%.

There were also decreases in variation rates for Clothing (-0.01% to -0.29%), Health and Personal Care (0.27% to 0.18%), Housing (0.84% to 0.81%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.01% to -0.05%). In these categories, there were notable results for the following items: Footwear (0.21% to -0.22%), Hygiene and Personal Care Items (0.01% to -0.29%), Residential Electricity Charges (3.94% to 3.36%), and Pet Food (-0.82% to -1.35%).

On the other hand, three groups saw increases in their rates of variation: Education, Reading and Recreation (-0.13% to 0.13%), Communication (0.27% to 0.38%), and Transportation (0.05% to 0.13%). In these categories, there were notable results for the following items: Airline Tickets (-9.61% to -4.57%), Residential Phone Charges (1.12% to 1.48%), and Ethanol (1.44% to 3.16%).
