Preliminary industrial survey signals deterioration in business people’s expectations

The preliminary industrial survey for September 2019, released by the FGV´s Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE), signals a 0.2-point drop in the Industry Confidence Index (ICI) in relation to the final number for August, to 95.4 points. In terms of moving quarterly averages, ICI fell 0.1 points, for the sixth consecutive time, to 95.3 points.

The index’s result worsened this month due to a deterioration in business people’s expectations regarding the next few months. After two consecutive increases, the Expectations Index fell 0.7 points, to 95.0 points. In turn, the Current Situation Index remained relatively stable, rising 0.2 points to 95.8 points.

The preliminary result for September indicates a 0.2-percentage-point decline in the Industrial Installed Capacity Utilization Level (NUCI), to 75.6%.
