In the latest edition, six of the eight spending classes that make up the index recorded decreases in their rates of variation. The biggest contribution came from the Transportation group (-1.57% to -2.02%).

IPC-S indicator falls in last week of April 2020

The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) fell 0.18% on April 30, 2020, down 0.25 percentage points from the previous edition. As a result, the indicator is now up 0.74% since the beginning of the year and up 2.60% in the last 12 months.

In the latest edition, six of the eight spending classes that make up the index recorded decreases in their rates of variation. The biggest contribution came from the Transportation group (-1.57% to -2.02%). Within this spending class, there was a notable result for the Gasoline item, which went from -5.29% to -6.76%.

There were also declines in the variation rates of the following groups: Education, Literature and Recreation (-0.22% to -0.90%), Food (1.51% to 1.10%), Housing (0.23% to 0.13%), Health and Personal Care (0.38% to 0.35%), and Communication (0.06% to 0.04%). In these spending categories, there were notable results for Airline Tickets (1.43% to -6.03%), Vegetables (9.87% to 5.57%), Residential Electricity Charges (0.35% to 0.05%), Medical and Dental Devices (0.28% to -0.08%) and Residential Phone Charges (0.33% to 0.18%).

On the other hand, the variation rate of the Miscellaneous Expenses group increased, from 0.32% to 0.35%. In this spending class, the figure for Banking Services went from 0.22% to 0.35%.

The Clothing group recorded a variation rate of -0.32%, unchanged from the previous survey. The main upward influence came from the Clothes item (-0.39% to -0.24%), while the main downward influence came from Footwear (-0.39% to -0.67%).
