Online event talks about how COVID-19 has changed the health agenda
On Tuesday, August 4, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Center of Politics and Economics of the Public Sector (FGV CEPESP) will hold a free webinar called “CEPESP in the Elections: Has COVID-19 Changed the Health Agenda?” This is the first in a series of events to discuss public policies and the upcoming municipal elections. The webinar will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 5 pm.
The speakers will discuss issues such as public health and its challenges after the pandemic. In Brazil, the fight against the coronavirus has been marked by a dispute involving narratives between the federal, state and municipal governments, which has affected the public’s adherence to social distancing rules. Despite this, the Public Health System, founded on the principle of collective health and staffed by specialized primary care physicians, has demonstrated its strength and local presence, helping to direct the country’s response, as it did in previous epidemics.
Given this response, will public health regain space on the municipal election agenda? And how can this happen in a context of budgetary restriction? What possible scenarios can be envisaged for public health spending? The speakers will include Rudi Rocha and Elize Massard da Fonseca, both of whom are FGV EAESP professors and researchers at CEPESP.
