Webinar discusses gender inequality during pandemic

On December 11, at 10 am, the Diversity Program at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Rio de Janeiro Law School will hold an international event called “Gender Justice and the Pandemic.” Organized in conjunction with the German Embassy, the webinar will discuss the impacts of social inequalities in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The virtual meeting, to be hosted on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 10 am, will debate the exacerbation of social inequalities caused by the crisis and their social, economic and health consequences, particularly regarding women and girls.

The speakers will be Susanne Baer, a judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany and professor at Humboldt University, Berlin; Professor Flávia Biroli of the University of Brasilia; and Anielle Franco, the director of the Marielle Franco Institute. The moderator will be Professor Ligia Fabris of the Rio de Janeiro Law School, who coordinates its Diversity Program. The purpose of the event is to analyze the widening of social, economic and health inequalities resulting from the present crisis and their specific gender-related effects in the pandemic, from an international perspective. The event seeks to reflect on relations between law, democracy and gender justice, including subjects such as the role of women in work, domestic violence and political gender violence in this context.

The event will take place in English and there will be simultaneous interpretation into Portuguese. To sign up for the free webinar, click here.
