On August 12, FGV Press and São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV/EAESP) conducted, in partnership with the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, the launch of the book Análise política & jornalismo de dados: ensaios a partir do Basômetro? (Political analysis & data journalism: tests from the Basômetro).Created in 2012 by the newspaper from São Paulo, through the Estadão Dados center, Basômetro is an open use interactive tool that allows you to analyze the behavior of members of the parliament at the plenary session. Therefore, it allows the user to make its own reflections and compare the performance of different party members. And it is exactly about the creation of this tool and the developments that its use has already enabled and will enable in political analysis and in the evolution of data journalism that organizers Marco Antonio Carvalho Teixeira, Humberto Dantas and José Roberto de Toledo discuss in the book. When two different perspectives - from the journalist and the political scientist - address the same issue, the learning gain is huge for both sides. The tendency is that data journalism will generate more qualified guidelines and expand research possibilities for Political Science, says Marco Antonio, who is deputy coordinator of the undergraduate studies in Public Administration of FGV/EAESP.During the launch of the book, a discussion on Data journalism and policy analysis will be held. In addition to the authors, the meeting will be attended by the director of FGV/EAESP, Maria Tereza Fleury; the professor and political scientist, Fernando Abrucio; and the managing editor of Estadão, Ricardo Gandour. The event will take place in São Paulo, at Rua Itapeva, 432. Registration is free and must be made through the e-mail coordcgapn@fgv.br.Please click here for more information about the book in FGV Press' website (in Portuguese). Please click here and learn about the Basômetro tool (in Portuguese).
