Brazil?s IGP-M decreases in May, according to IBRE

Two of the indexes comprising the IGP decreased. The main influence was the Broad Producer Price Index (IPA)  ?  whose weight on the index is 60% ?  which fell by 0.65%. In the previous month, the rate was 0.79%. The highlight is the natural foods subgroup, decreasing from 10.45% to minus 3.08%.

The General Price Index - Market (IGP-M), calculated by FGV's Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) fell by 0.13% in May. In April, the index recorded a 0.78% change. In May 2013, it recorded no change.Two of the indexes comprising the IGP decreased. The main influence was the Broad Producer Price Index (IPA)  ?  whose weight on the index is 60% ?  which fell by 0.65%. In the previous month, the rate was 0.79%. The highlight is the natural foods subgroup, decreasing from 10.45% to minus 3.08%.In the first stage of production, the index related to Crude Goods fell by 1.37% in May. In April, the index fell by 0.06%. Leading the way down were: bovines, iron ore and corn (grain).The Consumer Price Index (IPC) recorded also went down, recording a 0.68% change in May, compared to 0.82% in April. The main influence to this drop was the Food group (1.62% to 0.81%), due to the behavior of the item greens and vegetables, decreasing from 8.71% to 1.26%.The groups Apparel and Transportation also recorded decrease. Within these expense categories, the main influences were the items clothes and gasoline, respectively.The National Construction Cost Index (INCC) recorded a 1.37% change in May, more than the 0.67% recorded in April.The cumulative change rate of IGP-M in 2014, until May, is 3.22%. In 12 months, the IGP-M increased 7.84%.The INCC-M is calculated based on prices collected between the 21st day of the previous month and the 20th of the reference month.Click here and learn more (in Portuguese).
