FGV and Furnas discuss positive agenda for the energy sector in Brazil

Yesterday, May 12, FGV welcomed the President of Furnas, Flávio Decat, for a meeting with the objective of strengthening the relationship between the two institutions and discuss the outlook of the energy sector in the country.The meeting was attended by FGV's president, Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal; the engineer, executive secretary of Science and Technology from 1995 to 1998 and member of FGV's Board, Lindolpho Dias; FGV Energy's director, Carlos Otávio Quintella, and Luiz Roberto Bezerra, of FGV Energy.At the occasion, a positive agenda of actions to improve the Brazilian energy matrix was addressed.The first hydroelectric plant in BrazilFurnas is a government-controlled company - subsidiary of Eletrobras and linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy - dedicated to the generation and transmission of electric energy in Brazil.Founded in 1950, Furnas' mission was to heal the energy crisis that threatened the country. Usina de Furnas was the first large hydroelectric power plant in Brazil, with a capacity of 1,216 MW, established in Rio Grande, in Minas Gerais state, in 1958.In 1963, through the Federal Decree No. 41,066, the company Central Elétrica de Furnas started to effectively operate in the city of Passos (MG).
