Hiring in Brazil decelerates in April, according to IBRE

The Leading Indicator of Employment (ICD) by Fundação Getulio Vargas increased 2.8% in April 2014, after a significant drop in March - considering data free of seasonal influences. Although it is the highest increase since July 2013 (7.1%), the result was not enough to reverse the downward trend of the indicator when measured on quarterly moving averages. The ICD is composed of data broken down (into four categories of family income) according to the Consumer Survey's requisites, which seeks to capture the perception about the present situation of the labor market. The categories that contributed the most to the increase in the ICD in April were the consumers with family income up to R$ 2,100.00, whose Job Indicator (inverted) changed 6.6%, and those with incomes between R$ 4,800.00 and R$ 9,600.00, with a 1.8% change. Please click here to learn more and access the historical series of both indicators (in Portuguese).
