Consumer prices decrease in Brazil, according to IBRE

The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) of April 22 presented a 0.78% change - 0.08 percentage points above the recorded rate of the last publication. In this calculation, four of the eight expenditure categories part of the index presented a decrease in their change rates. The largest contribution came from the Education, Reading and Recreation group (from 0.32% to -0.49%). In this expenditure category, it is worth pointing out the behavior of airline tickets, whose rate decreased from -2.95% to -22.56%.The Food, Housing and Transportation groups also reported a decrease in their change rates. In these expenditure categories, the items greens and vegetables, residence furniture and new cars were the highlights, in that order.The groups Health and Personal Care, Clothing, Miscellaneous Expenses and Communication showed an increase in their change rates, driven by the prices of medicines in general, clothes, veterinary clinic and monthly internet fee.The next calculation of the IPC-S, with data collected up to April 30, will be disclosed next May 5.
