New FGV Cultural Center welcomes Nobel Prize exhibition

Free exhibition with interactive modules presents the life and work of chemist Alfred Nobel, besides inventions and personal objects of laureates.

Facts about the lives of those who received the Nobel Prize, inventions that changed the world, the selection criteria and the honoring categories are some of the highlights of the exhibition The Nobel Prize - Ideas Changing the World - that Rio de Janeiro's audience can visit until April 19 at the newly opened FGV Cultural Center.Held in partnership with the Nobel Foundation's Museum, in Stockholm, the exhibition features five interactive pavilions with a collection of texts, images, artifacts, exclusive documents, original artistic interpretations and advanced techniques that changed the world today and are present in our daily lives.  The exhibition also gives us details about the life and work of the chemist Alfred Nobel (1833 - 1896) - creator of the award and inventor of the dynamite and detonator.Among those selected for the exhibition in Rio we can find the notebook of the writer Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the 2010 Literature Nobel Prize, as well as unique documents, works of art and inventions like the transistor-powered radio, penicillin, plastic, digital camera, hard drive, computer and laser pointer. The exhibition outlines a summary of the awards and encourages the visitor to interact and uncover fascinating stories, said Olov Amelin, Director of the Nobel Museum.Rio is the second and last city in Latin America to host the exhibition, which had been displayed only in the city of São Paulo, at the end of last year. Then, the exhibition will continue its tour to other continents.The exhibition The Nobel Prize - Ideas Changing the World is free and is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday, from 9 am to 7 pm.Visitors must enter FGV's Cultural Center from Praia de Botafogo 190, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
