The Center for Technology and Society (CTS) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Rio de Janeiro Law School, in partnership with RedeSist, is holding a debate on digital sovereignty, featuring the renowned author and researcher Evgeny Morozov, who will present his latest work, “The Santiago Boys,” to the public. This public event will take place on September 4, at 2 pm, in FGV’s main building.

The discussions at the event, which will be simultaneously translated into Portuguese and English, will focus on digital sovereignty and its implications for Latin America’s evolving technological landscape. Morozov, internationally renowned for his critical analysis of the social impacts of technology, will lead the debate. In his “The Santiago Boys” podcast, the author and researcher reveals the intriguing story of Salvador Allende’s technocrats building a socialist internet in Chile and brings a unique perspective to the conversation.

Alongside Morozov, a diverse group of participants will present their contributions to the debate. Together, they will delve into the complexities of digital sovereignty in Brazil, considering its historical context, current challenges and future prospects. Featuring policy experts, academics and activists, the event will promote the sharing of ideas on this increasingly important topic for society.
