Consumer confidence registers decline in December, according to IBRE

The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC), calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) decreased 1.2% between November and December 2013, when it went from 112.8 to 111.5 points. With the result, the index remained, for the tenth consecutive month, below the historical average of 115.7 points and accumulated a decrease of -6.1% in 2013.According to the institute, the level of consumer satisfaction with the financial situation of their families in the last six months was below the historical average of 113 points, and in December, it was the criterion that contributed the most to the low evaluations. After staying steady for two months, the evaluation of consumers on personal finances lowered again: the proportion of consumers who considered the situation as ?good? decreased from 23.3% to 21.9%, while those who evaluated it as ?bad? increased from 10.8% to 12.9%.For more information on the ICC, please click here.
