The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), minister Joaquim Barbosa, has been at Fundação Getulio Vargas for an interview regarding the project The Supreme by its Ministers: the Oral History of the STF in the 25 years of the Constitution (1988-2013) - a partnership between Rio de Janeiro Law School (FGV/DIREITO RIO) and the School of Social Sciences (FGV/CPDOC), coordinated by Rio de Janeiro Law School Professor, Fernando Fontainha.The minister took the opportunity to visit one of the undergraduate classes of the School, accompanied by the director, Joaquim Falcão, and the graduate studies coordinator. Joaquim Barbosa talked to students during a Tax Law lesson.When questioned about which advice he would give future lawyers, the president of the STF recommended students to devote themselves to reading non-legal works, because a good lawyer depends on an extensive culture. A good cultural formation is essential, he emphasized.  The minister also pointed out the importance of the study of court precedents and the dedication that students put into this time of training.Applauded by students, Joaquim Barbosa proceeded to the interview, whose purpose was to tell the history of the highest national court through the accounts of its members.The visit of Minister Joaquim Barbosa to FGV happened last Friday, November 1st.
