Retrospective 2023: FGV EPGE receives Pedro Ernesto Medal of Merit
On May 22, 2023, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (FGV EPGE) received the Pedro Ernesto Medal of Merit, the highest honor bestowed by Rio de Janeiro’s City Council to people and organizations that have played an outstanding role in Brazilian or international society.
In line with protocol, the president of the City Council, Councilor Carlo Caiado, invited the dean of FGV EPGE, Professor Rubens Penha Cysne, to receive the medal, alongside FGV’s president, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal and its vice president, Clóvis de Faro.
Professor Cysne highlighted the award’s importance and the school’s track record of tradition and excellence. “On behalf of FGV EPGE, we were very proud to receive this medal and diploma, which express the municipal government’s recognition for the services provided to it since the school was founded 65 years ago. I also wish to highlight the excellence with which some of the school’s more recent students, such as Flavio Valle and Marcel Balassiano, have served in the municipal government,” he said.
In addition to Councilor Carlo Caiado, the ceremony was attended by Professor Aloiso Araujo, the vice dean of FGV EPGE; Aspásia Camargo, former Rio de Janeiro city councilor; Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, FGV’s president; Eduardo Cavaliere, Rio de Janeiro state government’s chief of staff; Professor Lucas Jóver Maestri, FGV EPGE’s graduate studies coordinator; Renê Garcia Junior, Paraná state finance secretary; and Professor Rubens Penha Cysne, the dean of FGV EPGE.
