FGV professors Antonio Freitas, Stavros Xanthopoylos and Claudia Costin were granted the title Educational Personality 2013 - an initiative that has been promoted for 15 years by the Brazilian Education Association (ABE), the Brazilian Press Association (ABI) and the newspaper Folha Dirigida to honor ten educators for their trajectory and contribution to the country.This is the first time that the municipal secretary of Education of the city of Rio de Janeiro and professor of FGV's Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration, Claudia Costin, is awarded. To be selected as one of the ten 2013 Education Personalities is more than an acknowledgment of the work that is being done to make Rio de Janeiro's Education take a leap of quality. It is an acknowledgement of the dedication of all the professors of the Municipal Network, who have shown that it is possible to change education in Rio and Brazil, Claudia believes.The vice-director of FGV's Institute of Educational Development (IDE), Stavros Xanthopoylos, on the other hand, had already been contemplated in 2011. This type of distinction is a recognition for the work - in my case, for the improvement and expansion of open educational resources, for the capillarity of knowledge, and the development of Brazil, states Xanthopoylos. And he adds. It is a reflection of the fight to make Distance Learning an effective instrument of qualification, an initiative that I carry out both in Brazil and the world, participating in national and international research groups, in addition to currently making part of OCW's board, he explains.FGV's Teaching, Research and Graduate Studies Provost, Antonio Freitas, was awarded the title for the third time, and became part of the Gallery of Personalities. I am very happy, and I believe that this is also a merit of all who are part of Fundação Getulio Vargas and help to build an institution of excellence and visibility, believes Freitas, who dedicates the title to all FGV professors, students and staff. It is an honor to work here.The educational personalities of this year were elected from nearly 6 thousand votes by professors, managers, trade unionists and authorities in the sector.The event Educational Personality 2013 will take place on October 17, in the auditorium of Clube da Aeronáutica, in Rio de Janeiro.
