Activity takes FGV students to learn about international experiences in South America

Between January 15 and February 2, 40 undergraduate students in Public Administration of FGV’s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP) participated in the project titled “Conexão Sul-Sul” (South-South Connection). The students visit South American countries like Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay to work in NGOs, public authorities, international organizations and study centers. In each country, they followed an agenda of lectures by scholars from the field, visits to Brazilian embassies, and several technical visits to public agencies and civil society organizations involved in this topic.

In Ecuador, for example, Universidade Andina Simon Bolívar put together an exclusive three-day course for the FGV group to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN). After the course, students will visit Ecuador’s Department of Development Planning, National Assembly, Department of Environment, and Central Bank. The civil society entity that the students will visit is the FARO Group, which encompasses several civil society organizations promoting the SDGs in the country. The students will also visit private entities to understand the companies’ role in developing SDGs, such as the Global Compact and the Holcim company. Finally, the students will also visit other international organizations involved, such as UNESCO and UNDP.

In Uruguay, some locations to be visited by the students include the country’s Department of Foreign Relations, chambers of commerce and the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation, besides talking to representatives from political parties and international organizations (Mercosur and ALADI). The students will also interact with several scholars from the field of Foreign Policy and International Relations. The visit to Chile, in turn, will focus on housing-related issues. In Colombia, students will analyze the country’s solutions when it comes to urban mobility.
