On July 12, 2021, at 7 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) will hold a free webinar about the textile and clothing industry and the bioeconomy in the Amazon. The event is part of the Amazon Dialogues, a series of online meetings to discuss topics related to the Brazilian Amazon’s sustainable socioeconomic development with the whole of civil society.
The speakers will be Fernando Pimentel, the president of the Brazilian Textile Industry Association (ABIT); and Luiz Augusto Rocha, the CEO of Bicho de Seda. The moderators will be Márcio Holland, the coordinator of the Finance and Economics Master’s Program at FGV EESP; and Daniel Vargas, FGVAgro’s research director.
Sustainability is a hot topic in the textile and apparel sector, as well as the fourth industrial revolution, automation, cyber-physical systems, the internet of things and the network economy. During the event, the speakers will discuss the opportunities and challenges of establishing and strengthening a textile and apparel hub in the innovative context of industry 4.0 in northern Brazil, considering the Amazon’s rich social and biological diversity. The region’s importance to the defense industry will also be considered.
In all, there will be 20 Amazon Dialogues, featuring private sector leaders, experts, public officials, academics and multidisciplinary personalities from all over Brazil.
