Arbitration makes Brazil significant on world stage, says director of FGV Chamber

Arbitration is used in Brazil as a form of conflict resolution. This was one of the main messages presented by the director of the FGV Chamber of Mediation and Arbitration, Juliana Loss, at the 10th Lisbon Legal Forum. The event was held between June 27 and 29 at the University of Lisbon Law School.

According to Loss, who is also the academic coordinator of FGV Knowledge’s Center for Judicial Innovation, Administration and Research, this use of arbitration is encouraged by the judiciary. As a result, arbitration has been growing steadily in Brazil and the country is gaining a prominent role in this area on the world stage.

Loss was one of the members of a roundtable called “New Technologies in the Justice System.” During the debate, she presented some of the main results achieved by the FGV Chamber of Mediation and Arbitration and prospects for the incorporation of new technologies into the arbitration procedure.

The theme of the 10th Lisbon Legal Forum was “Governance of the Legal Order in Transformation.” The event is organized by the Brazilian Institute for Education, Development and Research (IDP), Lisbon Law School’s Institute of Legal and Political Sciences and FGV Knowledge. The aim is to promote legal, political and institutional dialogue between Brazil and Portugal.
