Challenges in application of data science at companies is subject of seminar
Team recruitment and the constant generation and management of value for businesses are challenges for companies that decide to use data science in their everyday operations. Tiago Dantas, who has a PhD in production engineering and a master’s in electrical engineering from Rio de Janeiro Catholic University, as well as an undergraduate degree in statistics from the National School of Statistical Sciences, gave a talk on August 23 at FGV, as part of a seminar organized by the innovation team at the FGV´s Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE).
The event, called “Challenges linked to the application of data science at companies,” discussed key practical challenges in the use of data science at companies, such as team hiring and structuring, based on Dantas’ experience as Head of Data Science at Blu Varejo, as well as the breakdown of work in the area.
The seminar also explored the use of data to improve decision making inside organizations through the creation of dashboards that show metrics and indicators, as well as simulators and predictions to track customers’ behavior, identify the risk of revenue/customer churn and prevent possible fraud.
