Dean of FGV CPDOC is elected chairman of armed forces international committee
On June 23, 2023, the dean of Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC), Professor Celso Castro, was elected chairman of the International Sociological Association’s Research Committee RC01 – Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution. His election to this four-year post reinforces the leadership and innovation profile of CPDOC’s researchers.
The committee aims to foster contact between social scientists specializing in this subject all over the world; encourage the international sharing of research findings, theoretical developments and methodologies; and promote teaching activities. The first meeting of what would become Research Committee RC01 took place at a conference about the armed forces in London in July 1964, chaired by sociologist Morris Janowitz.
Castro began his duties as chairman at the committee’s meeting at the 20th ISA World Congress of Sociology, which took place in Melbourne, Australia between June 25 and July 1.
