Direito Rio receives applications for the CyberBRICS Fellowship Program
FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) launches the first edition of the CyberBRICS Fellowship Program, under the framework of the Fellows in Rio initiative, developed in partnership with seven international higher education and research institutions. The program will offer five scholarships, from February to July 2019, at Direito Rio, for scholars selected from the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) or with relevant experience in at least one of them.
The program aims to provide economic, intellectual and networking resources to support a select group of highly qualified graduate students, PhD candidates and postdoctorates working with personal data regulations and cybersecurity strategies in the BRICS region. The CyberBRICS project proposes to map existing regulations, identify best practices, and develop policy suggestions in the areas of personal data governance and cybersecurity governance.
Fellows will be selected by a committee made up of professors from partner institutions. In addition to FGV, the program is composed of the School of Economics and the Center for New Media and Society (Moscow, Russia); the Center for Internet and Society (New Delhi, India); Fudan University (Shanghai, China) and the University of Hong Kong (China); and Research ICT Africa and the University of Cape Town (Cape Town, South Africa).
Applicants can be of any nationality and must be enrolled at or have recently completed a Doctorate in Law, Political Science, Computer Science or Economics. They must have mastered the English language and prove to have already published research in English. To be eligible for the program, applicants must submit their updated curriculum in the Lattes format by November 30, as well as their research proposal or abstract of their course dissertation (maximum 5,000 characters), list of proposed activities to be developed at Direito Rio and a referral letter.
