Economy Minister Paulo Guedes participates in Reassessing Brazil’s Risk Rating seminar at FGV
On November 8, Fundação Getulio Vargas will hold a seminar titled Reassessing Brazil’s Risk Rating. Economy Minister Paulo Guedes will be giving the closing speech, while National Treasury Secretary Mansueto de Almeida Junior will discuss the progress of the country’s fiscal adjustment. The event will take place at the FGV Cultural Center, at Praia de Botafogo, 186, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro.
“We will have a debate involving different stakeholders who have different perspectives about the evolution of Brazil’s risk rating. The great achievement of building a fiscal anchor by passing the public pension reform will be discussed, as well as the political feasibility of the ongoing tax and administrative reform agenda, and above all the trade liberalization process, encompassing a series of bilateral agreements that will boost investment and productivity,” says Professor Carlos Langoni, the director of the World Economic Center, the FGV body that is organizing the event, in partnership with FGV Projects and the FGV Business Cooperation Committee.
There will also be a block of discussions about regulated sectors, which will explore oil and gas sector deregulation and improvements to governance and management at Petrobras. This debate will feature the CEO of Petrobras, Roberto Castello Branco; the director of the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), Décio Oddone; the CEO of Shell Brasil, André Araújo; the executive president of Brookfield, Luiz Ildefonso Simões Lopes; and the chairman of the FGV Business Cooperation Committee, João Carlos de Luca.
Rating agencies will also analyze Brazil’s current economic circumstances and sovereign risk level. The head of Fitch Ratings’ Brazilian unit, Rafael Guedes, and the deputy director of FGV Projects, Luiz Carlos Guimarães Duque, will discuss this topic. The seminar’s opening talk will be given by Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, FGV’s president.
