Event discusses global digital governance to mark FGV Center for Technology’s 20th anniversary

This year, the Center for Technology and Society (CTS) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Rio de Janeiro Law School is celebrating its 20th anniversary. For the last two decades, it has been making academic contributions through high-impact research and policy papers, as well as cooperating extensively with different sectors involved in the field of technology. To mark the date, CTS is holding an event called Global Digital Governance: Exploring Challenges and Celebrating 20 Years of CTS, on July 21, at 10 am, in FGV’s main building.
The center’s role is to contribute to the formulation of public policies related to digital rights in Brazil, expanding dialogue among the public authorities, the private sector, academia and other stakeholders.
CTS’ multisector output encompasses a wide range of topics, including connectivity, cybersecurity, platform governance and new artificial intelligence technologies. The center was a key player in the formulation of Brazil’s Digital Bill of Rights in 2014 and it continues to play an influential role in shaping public policies in the field of digital rights.
At recent public hearings, CTS contributed to debate on the constitutionality of Article 19 of the Digital Bill of Rights and helped influence the National Cybersecurity Policy. It also contributed to the drafting of a bill to create a regulatory framework for artificial intelligence in Brazil.
In recent years, CTS has established several research projects with considerable international reach, such as the CyberBRICS project, the CPDP LatAm Conference and the eCommerce Nucleus, which have carried out a wide range of research and initiatives of recognized impact.
To celebrate the center’s first two decades, we invite you to participate in this debate about some of CTS’ main areas of research, along with some of the leading figures in the center’s evolution.
The following subjects will be addressed:
