Event discusses ways of strengthening democracies in Brazil and Europe in times of social networks
FGV’s Department of Public Policy Analysis (DAPP) and the FGV´s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio), alongside the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, will be organizing on May 24 the panel discussion “Digitalização e Democracia: Como fortalecer a democracia no Brasil e na Europa para a era digital?” (“Digitalization and democracy: How to strengthen democracy in Brazil and in Europe for the digital age?”). The event will be held at the FGV Main Office (Praia de Botafogo, 190, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ), from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The meeting is part of a series of debates being held by the German Embassy in the framework of the Europe-Brazil Democracy Forum. The digital space created – called Big Data, Scoring, Bots, Fake News – offers totally new essential conditions, and the panel will debate what can be done to preserve political and legal parliamentary democracy.
The event will be attended by Professor Jeanette Hofmann from the Berlin-based Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society, as well as Marco Aurelio Ruediger, Director of FGV DAPP, Professor Christian Grimme, from Münster University, and Professor Ivar A Hartmann, from FGV Direito Rio, under the moderation of Paula Cesarino Costa, ombudsman at Folha de São Paulo.
