FGV celebrates opening of Professor Antônio Angarita Building in Sao Paulo

On the evening of Monday, April 8, Fundação Getulio Vargas formally opened the Professor Antônio Angarita Building, located at 63 Rua Professor Picarolo, Bela Vista, Sao Paulo. The building will be used by the Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP). The opening ceremony marked the beginning of celebrations of FGV’s 80th anniversary and FGV EAESP’s seven-decade track record.

The meeting was attended by the president of FGV, Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal; the dean of FGV EAESP, Luiz Artur Ledur Brito; and many other professors and members of the FGV community. There was also a performance by the Monte Cristo String Quartet. During his speech, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal reflected on the significance and impact of the construction of the new building. He said that “FGV’s work is never complete” and that the building is a dream come true, but there is still a lot of work to be done. He recounted the history of FGV EAESP and paid tribute to Professor Antônio Angarita, highlighting his legacy of academic excellence and commitment to educational innovation.

Antônio Angarita was a professor at FGV and a key figure in founding and directing two of the institution’s most important schools: EAESP, founded in 1954; and the FGV Sao Paulo Law School, founded in 2002. He stands out for his contributions over the course of more than six decades. Born in Amazonas, he did a law degree at Minas Gerais Federal University and then built his career in Sao Paulo, holding positions in the state public administration and at airline VASP, as well as playing a prominent role in the restoration of democracy in Brazil in the 1980s.

Throughout the ceremony, the speakers emphasized the importance of the event and Professor Angarita’s contribution to the institution. Professor Maria Tereza Fleury addressed topics such as the importance of organizational culture and the evolution of FGV EAESP. She expressed her gratitude for having worked with Professor Angarita, who championed FGV’s values and mission.

In turn, Professor Luiz Arthur Ledur Brito stressed the business school’s growth and expanding international partnerships, and he announced plans to attract students from all over Brazil and abroad, positioning FGV EAESP as a leader in Latin America.

After the speeches, in a symbolic gesture, an inauguration plate was unveiled, marking the beginning of a new era for FGV. The event was followed by a performance by the Monte Cristo String Quartet, which delighted those present, and there was then a cocktail reception to celebrate the historic moment.

The opening of the Professor Antônio Angarita Building represents another milestone in the successful trajectory of FGV EAESP – a business school recognized internationally for its academic excellence and commitment to educational innovation.
