FGV hosts leading global think tanks

In the presence of 150 representatives of the world’s leading think tanks, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ International Affairs Division (FGV DINT) and the University of Pennsylvania held the 2019 Global Think Tank Summit in Rio de Janeiro, from December 11 to 13. The theme was “Managing Global Turbulence and Transitions: the role of think tanks.” This was the first time the event had been held in Latin America, and it was the biggest ever meeting of think tanks, attracting participants from more than 100 institutions in 55 countries on all continents.

The event addressed subjects such as the new world order, mass protests and democratic crises, the hazards and promises of artificial intelligence, climate change, food security, trade wars, and the role of think tanks in promoting diversity and innovation. The international conference also provided room to think about the future at a time of insecurity and instability, multilateralism and the potential for partnerships between think tanks.

Think tanks are organizations that act as a bridge between applied knowledge and political decision makers. They aim to influence and improve the quality of society’s decisions through scientific knowledge.
