FGV hosts think tanks to debate future of world order

Mindful of its role in promoting the production of innovative, high-level knowledge, FGV will soon welcome representatives of some of today’s most influential think tanks, including for a debate open to the public titled “The Future of the World Order: Perspectives from the BRICS, the West, and Beyond.” The event will be held on November 7, at 1:30 p.m., in FGV’s main building in Rio de Janeiro.

The aim of the meeting is to debate the future of the global order in a context of growing international instability. The panel will address different regional perspectives of our world and its new geopolitical configurations. This is a valuable opportunity for the academic and diplomatic community and the general public to tap into the knowledge of renowned researchers from prominent foreign policy think tanks around the world.

The debate is part of the schedule of the 14th Regional Conference of the Council of Councils (CoC), a closed event that will bring together 30 influential global think tanks at FGV to discuss the main challenges of global governance in the 21st century. This is the first time the conference has been held in Brazil, and it is being coordinated by FGV’s International Affairs Division (FGV DINT) in partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

The speakers will be Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, president of FGV; Michael Froman, president of the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations; Mely Caballero-Anthony, director of the Centre for Non-Traditional Security Studies at Singapore’s S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies; and Alex Benkenstein, director of the Climate and Natural Resources Program at the South African Institute of International Affairs. The moderator will be Thomas Gomart, director of the French Institute of International Relations.
