FGV launches Center for Innovation in Urban Public Policies

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP) is launching the Center for Innovation in Urban Public Policies (FGV Cities). The launch event will take place on May 25, at 2 pm, in the FGV 9 de Julho Noble Room.

During the event, proposals will be presented on how cities can innovate in their urban public policies in order to offer better quality public services within their existing budgets. In general, Brazilian cities have not been able to solve their residents’ problems, in areas such as mobility, pollution, crime and housing.

The purpose of the event is to look at opportunities and challenges in these areas. Some cities will also present innovative solutions in progress, and federal government secretaries will discuss interactions with municipal governments, while FGV Cities’ partner companies will present the private sector’s perspectives on the development of cities.

About FGV Cities

This research center, linked to FGV EAESP, aims to improve access to opportunities for the most vulnerable people living on the poor outskirts of Brazilian cities. Its efforts are focused on urban public policies related to transportation, housing, education and public finance, seeking to promote development and reduce inequalities through innovation. We understand that there are opportunities for urban public policies that are currently underexploited by local governments.

Through national and international partnerships with stakeholders in multiple areas and institutional structures, FGV Cities seeks to develop innovative solutions to tackle the chronic challenges of unequal opportunities, creating a more inclusive and sustainable environment for all Brazilians.

FGV Cities, backed by an interdisciplinary team of researchers in the fields of government, economics, law, engineering and data science, has the mission of helping municipalities advance in technological, regulatory and public policy terms, contributing to the building of more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous cities. We believe that to achieve this, academic research is not enough. We need to facilitate the design, implementation and evaluation of policies, and this can only be achieved by also involving the private sector.
