FGV launches guides for digital platform workers

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Rio de Janeiro Law School has launched two guides aimed at workers on digital platforms, such as Uber Eats and iFood. The guides are the result of a field project called “Uberization and Work on Digital Delivery Platforms,” carried out by undergraduate students at FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School. The aim of this study was to understand the profile of digital delivery platform workers and their working conditions.

The field project involved research on working conditions on digital delivery platforms, through a Google Forms questionnaire. In all, 79.6% of workers said they did not know of any organization that offers help to delivery workers. Based on this finding, the students prepared a guide called “Organizations That Offer Help to App Delivery Workers.”

The questionnaire also sought to understand improvements that these workers would like to see, such as higher delivery fees, the end of unjustified app blocking and accident insurance. These and other demands are presented in another document, called “Guide for App Delivery Organizations, Including Proposals to Help Their Workers.”

The “Uberization and Work on Digital Delivery Platforms” field project, authored and supervised by Ana Beatriz Bueno de Jesus, a guest professor at FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School, was carried out by the following students: Bruna Macedo Alves Costa, Guilherme Soares Azevedo, Júlia Milczanowski Araujo, Juliana Silva Magno Baptista, Marcelle Dumas de Andrade and Vitória dos Santos Sperotto.

“The idea behind the research project wasn’t just to reveal the poor working conditions these workers are subject to, but also to help them by identifying existing organizations,” explained Ana Beatriz Bueno de Jesus, the research project’s supervisor.

Both guides are available free of charge via the links below:
