FGV Provost assumes presidency of Brazilian Board of Higher Education
The Provost for Education, Research and Graduate Studies of Fundação Getulio Vargas, Antonio Freitas, will take office as president of the Board of Higher Education of the Brazilian National Education Council (CNE/CES) on September 11, at 9 a.m. The ceremony will be held in the Anísio Teixeira auditorium at CNE’s main office, in Brasília.
Professor Freitas holds a PhD from the University of Michigan, a PhD from North Carolina State University, a doctorate degree in Industrial Engineering from Syracuse University, and a Master’s degree in Production Engineering from UFRJ. Freitas is also a member of the Brazilian Education Association (ABE) and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABCA), a member of the Advisory Board of the National Association of Business Administration Undergraduate Courses (ANGRAD), and President of the Education Quality Accreditation Agency (EQUAA). He is also a professor at FGV, a full professor of Production Engineering at UFF, and a visiting professor at the University of Michigan.
The Board of Higher Education is part of the National Education Council, whose mission is to democratically seek alternatives and institutional mechanisms to ensure society’s engagement in the development, improvement and consolidation of quality education nationwide, within the council’s scope of activities. The CNE’s Board of Higher Education carries out the attributions established by Law No. 9.131/95, issuing opinions and rendering private and independent rulings on matters related to Higher Education - undergraduate and graduate stricto sensu.
