IGP-M advances on the 2nd preliminary results for August

The General Market Price Index (IGP-M) varied 0.67% in the second ten-day period of August. The index had recorded an increase of 0.53% in the same period of the previous month.
The Broad Producer Price Index (IPA) changed from 0.52% in the second ten-day period of July to 0.95% in the same of August. In the analysis based on processing stages, the prices of Finished Goods did not vary in August, after an increase of 0.21% in July. The processed foods subgroup was the main driver behind this trend, varying from 3.12% to 0.02%
The rate for the Intermediate Goods group varied 1.04% in August, compared to 2.14% in July. The main factor behind such variation was the manufacturing materials and components subgroup, varying from 2.41% to 0.61%.
The rate for the Crude Raw Materials group rose from -1.10% in July to 2.00% in August. Some of the main drivers behind such increase in the group were corn (kernels) (-9.05% to 1.87%), soy (beans) (-2.39% to 2.16%) and fresh milk (5.19% to 11.78%). The following items stood out in the opposite direction: poultry (8.19% to -0.68%), coffee (beans) (-0.99% to -4.36%) and pigs (2.42% to -2.08%).
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) varied 0.05% in the second ten-day period of August, compared to 0.39% in the same period of the previous month. Five of the eight expense categories that comprise the index recorded decreases in their variations. The biggest most significant variation was recorded in the Housing group (1.22% to 0.54%). The household power bill, which fell from 5.58% to 1.51%, should be mentioned in this expense class.
The Education, Reading and Recreation (1.00% to -0.46%), Transport (0.26% to -0.05%), Food (-0.19% to -0.28%) and Communication (0.35% to 0.01%) groups also recorded decreasing variation rates. In these expense classes, the main contributors were the airline ticket (22.91% to -20.93%), urban bus fare (1.88% to -0.11%), dairy (6.14% to 0.23%) and mobile phone bill (0.68% to 0.04%) items.
On the other hand, the Clothing (-0.87% to -0.40%), Health and Personal Care (0.27% to 0.35%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.15% to 0.20%) categories recorded increasing variation rates. The main drivers in these categories were clothes (-1.02% to -0.49%), hygiene and personal care items (-1.13% to 0.32%) and cigarettes (0.10% to 0.85%).
The Civil Construction Index (INCC) increased by 0.36% in the second ten-day period of August. This index rose 0.90% in the previous month. The Materials, Equipment and Services index varied 0.79%, below the 0.96% recorded in July. The Manpower cost index did not show any variation in August, compared to 0.86% in the previous month.
