Initiative provides law students with immersion in legal technology startup
The initiative is being carried out in partnership with Finch Soluções, a pioneering company in the provision of legal solutions by means of a platform made up of intelligence technologies, located in Bauru, Sao Paulo.

The Center for Education, Research and Innovation (CEPI) of FGV’s Sao Paulo Law School (Direito SP) is hosting a week of immersion in Law and Technology from September 24 to 28. The initiative is being carried out in partnership with Finch Soluções, a pioneering company in the provision of legal solutions by means of a platform made up of intelligence technologies, located in Bauru, Sao Paulo. A total of 25 students are participating in the program and now have the opportunity to become familiar with a leading company in the field of innovation and technology in the legal market.
The company was established in 2013 to revolutionize the activities and processes of JBM Advogados, one of the largest law firms in Brazil, increasing its productivity and efficiency. It has more than 400 employees and seven branch offices throughout Brazil, standing out as a leader in the Brazilian market of technological legal solutions. The immersion seeks to associate the potential of Finch’s business model with provocations for the students to rethink what the legal profession means in the 21st century.
The goal of the immersion is to introduce potential new business models in the legal world. Therefore, the teaching methodology is designed to make them think and create new ways of practicing law in a globalized world with a highly intense use of technological tools. In addition, they will be prepared and take note of the skills that will be appreciated in a legal professional in the future, according to the needs of the new century and the demands of the new businesses that arise.
To help them achieve this way of thinking, the students will also be introduced to the offices of Mandaliti Advogados, a firm that excels in specialized service by business area and stands out in the legal industry, and JBM Advogados, a pioneering firm in the investment and use of artificial intelligence for legal purposes. Both firms use Finch’s technology for their business and were responsible for significantly changing the traditional way of providing legal services in Brazil with the use of artificial intelligence.
Specifically, “the main goal of the immersion will be to co-create solutions for three challenges proposed by Finch, Mandaliti and JBM Advogados, involving issues related to the future of mass litigation, branding, and innovative business models”, said Renato Mandaliti, CEO of Finch Soluções. On the last day of immersion, the students will need to deliver a solution to each of the proposed challenges, applied to Finch’s and the firms’ reality. The challenges allow the students to become familiar with the difficulties of managing and expanding a business based on innovative premises that go beyond the traditional law firm administration model.
The first two days of the program will take place at Direito SP. The students will work on their familiarity with technological legal tools and are expected to be able to sketch out a new type of organization for law firms, as well as the profile of the professionals who would fill their administration positions. In the last three days of immersion, the students will travel to Bauru, where they will carry out activities at the main offices of Finch, Mandaliti and JBM, and will become further involved in the challenges whose solutions will be their final product. The projects will be presented directly to the companies’ directors and partners.
“The goal of this activity is to develop different skills that are becoming fundamental for the legal professional of the 21st century, such as entrepreneurship, leadership, creativity, collaboration, communication, social responsibility and critical thinking”, said Marina Feferbaum, Coordinator of the CEPI. In the end, the students are expected to have contact with an innovative reality both in its design and its execution through new technologies. The students will need to prepare for this scenario when entering the job market.
