International competition promotes innovative solutions to Quantitative Finance problems

FGV’s School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp) is hosting the first edition of the Financial Mathematics Team Challenge Brazil, until August 18, supported by University College London. The competition divides graduate and PhD students in Quantitative Finance into teams and challenges them to come up with solutions for real-world problems.
The competition is inspired by the initiative of the African Institute of Financial Markets and Risk Management (AIFMRM) at University of Cape Town (South Africa), which has hosted the event since 2014. Participants are divided into four teams, each consisting of a mentor (researcher, three of which are foreign), a leader (PhD students, all foreign), and three graduate students from Brazil.
Each team is challenged to write a report containing their findings about a problem involving quantitative finance. Conclusions are then compiled in a document that will be available for future participants of the challenge. The competition fosters an environment of interaction and collaboration among participants, enabling them to develop solutions in the fields of Risk, Quantitative Finance and Insurance.
