International seminar discusses regulatory paths for business between China and Rio de Janeiro
FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) and the Brazilian Association of Chinese Enterprises (ABEC-CCPIT) will be holding, on May 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the 3rd Seminar “Um Cinturão, Uma Rota e Um Rio: caminhos regulatórios para os negócios entre China e Rio de Janeiro” ("One Belt, one Road and Rio: a new path to the trade and investment between China and Brazil”). The event, which will take place at the FGV Headquarters (Praia de Botafogo, 190, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ), will bring together academics, lawyers, entrepreneurs and authorities who will discuss and present analyses of the challenges for the development of projects in the area of energy and social and urban infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with China, in order to turn Rio in a Brazilian city connected to the New Silk Road.
The event will be attended by the Ambassador of China to Brazil, Yang Wanming, who will participate in the opening roundtable of the seminar, which will focus on the topic “‘Cinturão e Rota’ e o Brasil: Como desenvolver as Cinco Conexões para o aprimoramento das relações bilaterais?” (“'Belt and Route” and Brazil: How to Develop the Five Connections for Improving of Bilateral Relations?”). The panel will also be attended by Li Yang, Consul General of China in Rio de Janeiro and President of the Brazilian Association of Chinese Enterprises (ABEC), and Wang Yansong, President of XCMG Brasil. FGV Direito Rio will be represented by Professor Sérgio Guerra, Dean of the School, and Professor Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, Coordinator of the Nucleus for Brazil-China Studies.
The seminar will also discuss the opportunities for partnership with China for the development of infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro and Brazil and the role of BNDES and the country’s investment prospects in the oil sector. In addition to the members of the opening roundtable, the debates will be attended by Osmar Lima (BNDES), Sheng Jianbo (CNOOC Brasil), Chang Zhongjiao (President of State Grid Brasil), and Song Lei (President of the China Development Bank).
