Lobbying and public policy addressed in new book
On June 29, FGV Press will launch the book “Lobby e políticas públicas” [Lobbying and public policy] in Sao Paulo. The publication is part of the FGV Pocket Collection, which aims to be as objective as possible when addressing the subject, without condemning or worshiping the lobbying activity. The book launch will take place at Blooks Livraria do Shopping Frei Caneca (Rua Frei Caneca, 569/3rd floor – Consolação – SP) on June 29, at 7 p.m.
Authors Wagner Mancuso and Andréa Gozetto present a summary of the main issues related to lobbying during the public policy cycle in Brazil. It is an introduction to the subject, which revolves around eight issues: what is lobbying; who are its agents (lobbyists); what are the goals of this activity; at what points of the decision-making process is lobbying present; how does lobbying takes place at these moments; how influential lobbying is; what contributions and problems such practice may entail; and how to face the challenge of regulating this phenomenon.
“Lobbying is a ubiquitous phenomenon in Brazilian politics. It is present in each parliamentary or government decision that affects our public policies. However, this phenomenon has received scant attention from academia and society. It’s time to place the interest groups in the spotlight”, said the authors.
