Master Class: business leaders discuss compliance, ethics and integrity at organizations

FGV held its first C-Level Master Class on September 3, focusing on a fundamental subject for the business environment. The topic was “Strategies and challenges for a culture of ethics and integrity within organizations.”

The meeting involved Professor Ligia Maura Costa, the coordinator of FGV Ethics, and four compliance specialists: Margarida de la Riva Smith (OEC), Marília Zulini da Costa Loosli (BRF), Martim Della Valle (ex-AB InBev) and Roberta Pêgas (ex-Telefonica). All of them shared their experiences of strategies and challenges for a culture of ethics and integrity within organizations.

According to Gilberto Sarfati, FGV’s C-level program coordinator, launching this cycle of meetings on this topic was highly strategic. “Our partnership with FGV Ethics, coordinated by Professor Ligia Maura Costa, has brought innovative and pioneering elements regarding the subject, which has become crucial for the business environment in Brazil,” he says.

The speakers discussed necessary elements for the creation of an efficient compliance program, such as ensuring learning among workers involved in the process, and the importance of developing a culture of compliance at companies, especially in the wake of major corruption scandals.

The target audience was senior executives in the public and private sectors in the areas of governance, risk and compliance, internal auditors, legal, HR and IT professionals, and corporate board members.

The next meetings in the cycle are as follows: “Technological innovation and society – implications, risks and opportunities,” on September 10; “Workshop on advanced techniques for negotiations with difficult people,” on October 17; and “Innovative shopping experiences,” on October 24.
