Obituary – Francisco Oswaldo Neves Dornelles

Born on January 7, 1935 in Belo Horizonte, Francisco Oswaldo Neves Dornelles rendered valuable services to Brazil as federal representative, senator, Federal Revenue Service secretary, minister of industry and commerce, labor minister and acting governor of Rio de Janeiro. He also held many other functions and positions during his brilliant career.
He had a bachelor’s degree in law, as well as a master’s and doctorate in public law. He also did the International Taxation Program at Harvard Law School and the European University Center in Nancy, France.
He joined FGV in 1967 as a professor. He coordinated a joint program between FGV and the Inter-American Development Bank to study tax and customs legislation in the member countries of the Latin American Free Trade Association, wrote many published books and papers, and took part in various conferences, courses, congresses and seminars. He received many awards and collaborated with various national and international institutions.
His loss will be felt by the whole FGV community. He was a reference point among our faculty and staff, as a public figure of great significance. We offer our most sincere condolences and solidarity to his family and friends.
His wake will be held at 186 Praia de Botafogo, in the FGV Cultural Center, on August 25, from 11 am to 3 pm.
