Online event discusses U.S. elections’ impact on energy geopolitics
One subject that has been not been talked about much in Brazil since the start of the pandemic chaos is the U.S. elections. To discuss this topic and the elections’ impact on energy sector geopolitics, FGV Energy will hold a webinar on August 10, called “The American Elections, the Biden Plan and Energy Geopolitics.” The event will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 6 pm.
In November of this year, the United States’ voters will decide who will govern the country for the next four years. The race is set to be between the current president, Donald Trump, who is seeking reelection, and the Democratic Party’s candidate, Joe Biden, who is a former vice president. In this context, the webinar will discuss and answer the following questions: What are the implications of these elections for Brazil from the perspective of politics, collaboration and energy? What will happen to Brazil’s environmental and energy agenda, currently aligned with that of Trump, if Biden is elected? How can we rectify the turmoil, isolation and to some extent hostility of Brazil’s foreign policy?
The subject will be discussed by Adriana Erthal Abdenur, a specialist in public policy and international relations at Plataforma Cipó; Fernanda Delgado, a professor and strategic advisor at FGV Energy; Márcio Zanetti, Brazil country leader for The Economist Intelligence Unit; Marlos Lima, international deputy director of FGV; and Paulo Sotero, a senior researcher at the Brazil Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. The event’s moderator will be Felipe Maciel, a journalist and director of energy news website EPBR.
