Online event looks at Brazilian federalism
The organizing editors of “The Pandemic and the Future of Brazilian Federalism,” a special report in the Public Management and Citizenship Journal, recently published by Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP), are holding a free online debate about the future of federalism in Brazil. The event will take place on May 27, at 2 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel.
Talks will be given by Diana Chebenova, senior director of the Forum of Federations, an international organization based in Ottawa, Canada, which carries out programs in various areas of policy, including fiscal management, education, local governance and intergovernmental relations; and Eduardo Grin, a professor at FGV EAESP. The moderator will be Catarina Ianni Segatto, a professor at the Federal University of the ABC region of Greater Sao Paulo.
The purpose of the webinar is to analyze the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic ended up accelerating and expanding the federative crisis unleashed by Brazil’s federal government in 2019, demonstrated by the subsequent lack of national coordination, especially in the management of the health crisis. This was seen in obstacles and difficulties involved in executing services experienced at the federal, state and municipal levels of government.
