Positive impact of social networks is a topic addressed in event supported by Facebook
Marco Aurelio Ruediger, Director of FGV’s Department of Public Policy Analysis (DAPP), chaired a panel at the event “Social Media and Latin American Democracy Agenda”. The meeting, which took place in Sao Paulo on March 19, was promoted by the Kofi Annan Foundation and Social Science One, which has partnered with Facebook. The initiative funds research and generates access to the platform’s protected data.
Ruediger, who is a member of the Latin American Consultative Committee of Social Science One, led the panel on the impact of social networks on Brazilian democracy.
According to the researcher, digital platforms have a positive role in strengthening democracy by exerting continual pressure on government and elected representatives, beyond the three branches of government and the press.
In addition to Ruediger, the DAPP researcher, Lucas Calil, also participated in the discussion, highlighting the most relevant thematic changes in the political debate on the Internet after the 2014 elections.
