Professional master’s: FGV launches new international relations program
Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of International Relations (FGV RI) has announced the launch of a new Professional Master’s in International Relations Program (MPRI) in Sao Paulo. The program combines the rigor of cutting-edge scientific production in the field of international relations with the development of practical skills and competencies that are highly applicable to the global job market.
FGV’s Master’s in International Relations will prepare students to solve real problems using sophisticated theories and methods specific to the field. Based on an innovative educational approach and a distinctive curriculum, the program qualifies its students for professional work in various sectors, including international organizations, multinational companies, banks, investment brokerages, media outlets, public relations firms, third sector organizations, government agencies, research institutes and think tanks.
The dean of FGV RI, Professor Celso Castro, said, “FGV RI is launching its professional master’s program at a time of high demand for qualified international relations professionals capable of delivering solutions to numerous challenges that are arising around the world.”
The course is suitable for both recent graduates in any area of knowledge looking to acquire practical tools to work in the field of international relations and professionals with established careers who wish to redirect their careers to a rapidly growing field, with multiple opportunities in all sectors of the economy and public life that have some international interface. Classes will be held twice a week, in the evening, with some additional meetings on Saturday mornings. The program lasts 24 months, spread over four semesters.
MPRI’s distinctive features
- Development of analytical skills, with a focus on clear and effective writing and communication (in Portuguese and English) in the field of international relations.
- Training in quantitative methods and data literacy applied to analysis and decision making in international relations, with personalized support for students with different levels of familiarity with these tools.
- Teaching staff trained at leading institutions abroad and with extensive professional experience beyond the academic field.
- Separate Careers Center, dedicated specifically to the international relations job market, providing extensive resources aimed at helping students and graduates gain employment and develop professionally.

“Professional master’s degrees in international relations are still scarce in Brazil and FGV’s program is here to fill this gap. We offer an innovative approach that combines the most advanced technical and intellectual production in the area with the development of cross-cutting skills and competencies, especially analytical writing and data literacy,” said Professor Carolina Moehlecke, MPRI’s coordinator.
