Public Hearing discusses governance reform of Pension Funds

Professor Joaquim Rubens Fontes Filho, coordinator of the Executive Master’s Degree in Business Management (MEX) of FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE), participated in the Public Hearing on the governance reform of Pension Funds. The meeting was held by the Social Security Office of the Brazilian Ministry of Finance on July 27.
The public hearing promoted debate and contributions on best management practices and governance, in order to subsidize studies and public policies aimed at the development and improvement of governance within the Supplementary Pension Scheme (RPC).
According to the Office’s data, Brazil has 301 pension funds sponsored by 2,706 companies and 415 founders, managing total assets of R$ 863.16 billion – equivalent to 13.0% of the GDP. The funds also serve 3.5 million participants, retirees and assisted individuals, showcasing the economic and social representation and relevance of this system, as well as the need to abide by best governance practices.
