Quality Management: FGV receives ISO 9001 certification

FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) received the ISO 9001/2015 certification, as an international recognition of quality regarding the organization’s management systems. Granted by the British Standards Institution, the first institution of national standards in the world, the certificate is unbiased proof that the School employs work processes based on best management practices.

“When we think about quality in education, we immediately think about the importance of a good faculty, excellent students and an up-to-date curriculum aligned to current market demands. However, another essential gear needed for this machine to work: good management. Hence the importance of the ISO 9001 certification, showcasing the School’s focus on internal management processes, covering all interactions with employees, professors or students”, said the School’s Dean, professor Sérgio Guerra.

The process assesses team knowledge regarding activities and the general context of each position, in order to promote the institution’s overall quality. The purpose of the standard is to ensure that every arrangement made with clients is fulfilled with the least amount of internal effort and at the lowest cost possible.

According to Sérgio Guerra, the certificate allows both the School and FGV to stand out, since it is not very common in the education industry.

“Our constant focus on the quality of our courses, student service and internal procedures ultimately translates into quality service, optimized research activities, quality programs, motivated people and, especially, transparency. The fact that our Direito Rio community is engaged in so many national and international initiatives is a reflection of how much we focus on the School’s executive activities”, he said.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a non-governmental organization working in the development of international quality standards. This is the first time that Direito Rio’s Master’s and Undergraduate courses are covered in the ISO 9001 certification. Lato Sensu Graduate courses have been certified since 2011, under a different certification authority.
